Encountering Women of Faith is co-authored by members of the Board of St. Catherine’s Vision, a group of women theologians seeking to serve God with all their mind, heart and strength. This book is pivotal in its inspiring presentation of women saints--of those who fought the good fight--and their influence on us, as we struggle for sainthood in this modern age.. It is also an historic book, since it is a Pan-Orthodox initiative, an initiative blessed by SCOBA, this is also the first book written to honor women everywhere who have pursued Orthodox theological studies, as well as all women who have dedicated themselves to Christian service.

Each chapter is written from a carefully explored theological, spiritual and contemporary perspective. The stories of St. Susanna, St. Elizabeth Feodorovna, the New Martyr, St. Melania the Younger, St. Olympias the Deaconess, St. Xenia of Petersburg and Fool for Christ, St. Mary Magdalene, St. Catherine, and the Myrrh-bearing Women are told by women who share their stories. Inspiring, revealing, funny, and sad, the authors explore how the witness of these women have influenced their lives.

Authors included are Susan Ariada, Hilary Chala, Julia Corduneanu, Barbara K. Harris, Kyriaki Karidoyanes FitzGerald, Nikki Stournaras, Eleni Simmons, Valerie G. Zahirsky.

About the Authors and St. Catherine's Vision

St. Catherine's Vision is a group of women graduates of Orthodox Theological Schools that have come together (with the blessing of SCOBA) to help harness the skills and knowledge of women graduates in the service of the Church. A planning committee has been established and has been working for over three years. The goal of the committee is to identify women graduates, solicit their interests and participation, and to select and prioritize projects that will benefit the Church.

For more information or to assist with the initiatives of St. Catherine's Vision, visit the group's website at the URL http://www.orthodoxwomen.org/index.html, or contact the group through email at orthodoxwomen@netscape.net.
