Leo J. Bravakis Passes Away

BRAVAKIS, Leo J. Leo James Bravakis, 86, of Johnson St., Middletown, beloved husband for 63 years, of Doris (Ahern) Bravakis, died Thursday, (October 20, 2005) at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown. Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late James T. and Fontene M. Bravakis and had lived in Middletown all of his life. Mr. Bravakis was a catcher with the Middletown Giants, and a member of the Middletown B.P.O.E. #771. He was a World War II army veteran serving in the Signal Corps. He also was a manager at, and eventually became owner of Portland Plumbing Supply. Later in his career he worked at Middlesex Plumbing Supply for 16 years until he retired in 1984. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Leo J. Bravakis, Jr. and his wife Carolyn M. of Windsor Locks; his daughter Alice B. Hodge and her husband Richard of Cromwell; a brother Ted J. Bravakis of Spokane, WA; two sisters, Anne Papandrea of Belleair Beach, FL and Helen Velis of Westfield, MA; four grandchildren, Sean Bravakis, Leigh Fischer, James Hodge, and Christopher Hodge; and six great-grandchildren, Emmett Bravakis, Jacob Hodge, Cal Hodge, Ashley Fischer, Alyssa Nardi and Christopher Nardi. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 11 a.m. at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown.
