The Paschal Journey

By RIchard E. Clairmont

The world now walks the path ordanied by God,
The path by countless generations trod.
We must not falter or relax our pace,
for God calls us to meet Him face to face.

We long for all His strength--His guiding hand--
Like sailors whose eyes tear at the sight of land,
But though the crown of thorns touches Christ's head,
Our hearts will not allow Him to be dead.

When Christ at will chooses the cross to ascend,
Then bliss will be ours at His journey's end.
The day--the very day--that He expires,
All evils will be consumed as if by fires.

And then our hearts, once wary of their fates,
Will be like souls eager to find their mates.
O happy day, when all the earth abounds
In joy and with jubilation resounds!
