Daughters of Penelope, Tethys Chapter #229 was founded over 60 years ago at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, located at the time in Highland Park, NJ, by several area Greek women who wanted to make a difference in their community. Since then, the chapter has actively supported a number of national and local charities and scholarship funds in New Brunswick, Somerset, Piscataway, Highland Park and Edison just to name a few.

Established in 1929, the Daughters of Penelope is the women’s auxiliary of the AHEPA Family (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) with Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This organization is a leader in philanthropic, educational and cultural activities with over 350 chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece, Cyprus, and Australia. Each chapter of the Daughters of Penelope makes a difference in its local community by devoting countless hours to volunteer work in hospitals, retirement homes, women’s centers and daycare centers; and by organizing educational seminars, helping the less fortunate, supporting their local church and making monetary contributions to neighborhood charities and scholarship funds.
