The Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) invites you to our 10th Annual Conference

The Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) is a non-partisan, nationwide network whose mission is to identify and harness the tremendous talents of Hellenic American Women. HAWC encourages awareness of public policy issues and promotes women who wish to play leadership roles in their communities, the nation and their professional fields of endeavor.

These distinguished panelists will explore qualities and characteristics of ordinary women who have demonstrated extraordinary strength and courage when faced with adversity or life altering situations.

Ramina Johal - Senior Coordinator of the Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children (http://www.womenscommission.org/) - a nonprofit research advocacy and public education organization devoted to improving conditions for women uprooted by war and persecution.

Laura Sutton - Certified Psychiatric Nurse Specialist and Family Therapist, whose work has included instituting a psychiatric homecare program, community outreach and education, grief counseling, and evaluating Emergency/Trauma Department psychiatric, substance abuse and suicidal patients at Hackensack University Medical Center

Maria Martin - New York based Business Performance Services partner with over 15 years experience working with a wide range of institutions in the financial markets sector, including investment banks, securities firms and asset management companies, and former partner of Arthur Anderson

Kathryn Porter (Moderator)
- Founder and President of the Human Rights Alliance, a private nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, whose mission is to protect and promote the reality of both human rights and human responsibilities throughout the world. Kathryn, who served in both the Bush and Reagan administration, was instrumental in focusing Congress' attention on the crimes against humanity of Saddam Hussein and his regime.

Keynote Speaker - Gail Blanke

Founder and CEO of Lifedesigns, LLC (http://www.lifedesigns.com). Executive Coach, Motivational Speaker, and Best-Selling Author, Ms. Blanke has been featured on numerous TV shows including Oprah, CNN, CNBC and FNN. Lifedesigns is a company whose vision is to empower people worldwide to live truly exceptional lives. An executive coach, motivational speaker, and best-selling author, Ms. Blanke was the sole guest on the Oprah Winfrey show, where she used the concepts from her book to help empower the audience.

Aristeon Award Recipient - Presented to a woman who has excelled in her field of endeavor

The Honorable Marina Corodemus, JSC

Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex County. Judge Corodemus' accomplishments are legion. She was the first Hellenic American female in the New Jersey Judiciary, the first woman president of the N.J. Trial Lawyers Association, and the first Mass Torts Judge, to name a few.

In addition to the panel discussion and luncheon, the conference fees include a private guided tour of the Onassis Center exhibit "From Ishtar to Aphrodite: 3200, Years of Cypriot Hellenism" on Friday evening, November 7, and a ‘Glendi’ an evening of Greek food, music and dance hosted by the historic Grand Prospect Hall, Brooklyn, N.Y (http://www.grandprospect.com/presskit2.html) on Saturday evening, November 8.
