International Campaign Regarding
the FYROM's Permanent Name

On May 28, 2003, an international campaign is being initiated, whose objective is the protection of the Hellenic origin of the name, history and culture of Macedonia.
The campaign is directed at the leaders of Greece, the United Nations, the European Union, and the United States of America. The campaign is also aimed at the members of the Parliaments of member nations of the European Union, the Senators and the House Representatives of the United States of America, the members of the Parliaments of many nations all over the world, the representatives of the United Nations, and many members of other governmental and legislative advisory boards and agencies and NGO's (Non-Governmental Organizations).

At this web site, individuals and organizations can electronically sign the petition as well as apply to sponsor the effort along with a number of Hellenic Organizations of the Diaspora who are sponsors.
The web site also contains background information related to the issue. It includes historical treatises and texts, press releases, communications, and media reports pertaining to the Hellenic origin of the name, history and culture of Macedonia.
The full text of the petition is as follows:
PETITION REGARDING THE FYROM's PERMANENT NAME
There is an ongoing effort emanating from the FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), to falsely link the present day Slavic inhabitants of that Republic with the ancient Macedonians who were indisputably Hellenic. With this falsification of history, the FYROM is attempting to establish a claim on Hellenic territory. The original Macedonians, descendants of the Heracleides, occupied the region in 2000 BC. The ancient Macedonians were part of a large group, which reached the area of present day Kastoria (Orestis) along with the Dorians, Acarnanians and Aetolians. According to Herodotus, the Father of History, after the group split into smaller ones, one of the groups established the Kingdom of Macedonia around 2000 BC.
The Slavs did not arrive in the region until the sixth century AD. Until 1944, the area that is now legally referred to as the FYROM was called "Vardarska Banovina". The Hellenic name of Macedonia was usurped by Yugoslavia's Communist dictator Marshall Broz Tito when he sought to gain access to the Aegean Sea by attempting to annex the province of Macedonia from neighboring Greece. The hostile, false, and hate - filled propaganda directed at Greece today from FYROM and its diaspora was originated by the tyrannical Yugoslav dictator Marshall Broz Tito.
We the Hellenes throughout the world, who reside in Greece and throughout the Diaspora, the philhellenes and those who believe in historical facts and in international regulations, that are respected by all civilized people, would like to present this petition to American President George W. Bush, the United States House of Representatives, the United States Senate, the European Union, the United Nations, to the Prime Minister of Hellas, Mr. Simitis and to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Papandreou. We urge all Hellenes to help resist the theft of Hellenic history and culture by the FYROM. This petition declares that the name, history, and culture of Macedonia are unquestionably Hellenic and that a final settlement with the FYROM must not permit them the use of the name Macedonia.

Από την 28η Μαΐου 2003, αρχίζει μια διεθνής έκκληση της οποίας ο στόχος είναι η προστασία του ονόματος "Μακεδονία", καθώς και της ιστορίας και του πολιτισμού της Μακεδονίας.
Η έκκληση απευθύνεται στους ηγέτες της Ελλάδας, των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, της Ευρωπαϊκής Ενώσεως και των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών της Αμερικής. Η έκκληση επίσης απευθύνεται προς τα μέλη των Κοινοβουλίων των εθνών μελών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ενώσεως, των Γερουσιαστών και των Αντιπροσώπων των Πολιτειών της Αμερικής, προς τα μέλη των Κοινοβουλίων πολλών εθνών σε παγκόσμια κλίμακα, προς τους αντιπροσώπους των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, και πολλών μελών άλλων κυβερνητικών και νομοθετικών επιτροπών και αντιπροσωπειών και ΜΚΟ (Μη Κυβερνητικών Οργανώσεων).

Η Ιστοσελίδα επίσης περιέχει τις βασικές πληροφορίες σχετικά με το ζήτημα. Περιλαμβάνει ιστορικές πραγματείες, κείμενα, δελτία τύπου, επικοινωνία, αναφορές σχετικά με την Ελληνική προέλευση του ονόματος "Μακεδονία", την ιστορία και κουλτούρα της Μακεδονίας.
Το πλήρες κείμενο της εκκλήσεως έχει ως εξής:
ΕΚΚΛΗΣΗ ΣΧΕΤΙΚΑ ΜΕ ΤΗΝ ΟΝΟΜΑΣΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΚΡΑΤΟΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΣΚΟΠΙΩΝ
Υπάρχει μια συνεχής και επίμονη προσπάθεια, προερχόμενη από το κράτος τωνΣκοπίων που εσφαλμένα επιχειρεί να συνδέσει τους σημερινούς Σλάβους κατοίκους αυτής της χώρας με τους αρχαίους Μακεδόνες οι οποίοι ήταν αναμφισβήτητα Έλληνες. Με τη διαστρέβλωση της ιστορίας, τα Σκόπια προσπαθούν να επεκταθούν στον Ελλαδικό χώρο. Οι αρχαίοι Μακεδόνες, απόγονοι των Ηρακλήδων, εγκαταστάθηκαν στην περιοχή της Μακεδονίας περίπου το 2000 π.Χ. και ανήκαν σ' ένα μεγαλύτερο όμιλο, ο οποίος έφτασε στην περιοχή της σημερινής Καστοριάς (Ορεστιάς) μαζί με τους Δωριείς, τους Ακαρνανούς και τους Αιτωλούς. Σύμφωνα με τον Ηρόδοτο, τον πατέρα της Ιστορίας, αφού ο όμιλος αυτός διαιρέθηκε σε μικρότερες ομάδες, μία απ' αυτές τις ομάδες εγκαταστάθηκε τελικά στο χώρο της Μακεδονίας, όπου και ίδρυσε τη Μακεδονική Δυναστεία γύρω στο 2000 π.Χ.
Η άφιξη των Σλάβων στην περιοχή δεν πραγματοποιήθηκε μέχρι τον έκτο αιώνα μ.Χ. Μέχρι το 1944, η περιοχή της οποίας το μόνο νόμιμο όνομα σήμερα είναι πΓΔΜ, λεγόταν "Βαρδάρσκα Μπανοβίνα" έως ότου ο Κομμουνιστής, Τίτο, σφετερίστηκε το όνομα "Μακεδονία" μόνο και μόνο για να αποκτήσει διέξοδο στο Αιγαίο Πέλαγος, εφ' όσον η Ελληνική Μακεδονία προσαρτηθεί στη Γιουγκοσλαβία. Η εχθρική και ψευδής σημερινή προπαγάνδα των Σκοπιανών και της Σκοπιανής Διασποράς εναντίον της Ελλάδας, ενισχύθηκε από τον Τίτο.
Εμείς οι απανταχού Έλληνες, οι Έλληνες του Ελλαδικού χώρου, η Ομογένεια της Διασποράς, μαζί με τους απανταχού Φιλέλληνες και τα άτομα τα οποία πιστεύουν
στην Ιστορική αλήθεια και στους διεθνείς κανόνες που ασπάζονται όλοι οι πολιτισμένοι λαοί, επιθυμούμε να παρουσιάσουμε αυτή την αίτηση στον πρόεδρο των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, κ. George Bush, στην Βουλή Αντιπροσώπων των Η.Π.Α., στους Γερουσιαστές της Αμερικής, στα μέλη των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, στην Ευρωπαϊκή Κοινότητα, καθώς και στον Πρωθυπουργό της Ελλάδας, κύριο Κωνσταντίνο Σημίτη και στον Υπουργό Εξωτερικών, κύριο Γεώργιο Παπανδρέου. Παρακαλούμε όλους τους Έλληνες να αντιδράσουν για την κλοπή της Ελληνικής ιστορίας και πολιτιστικής τους κληρονομιάς από το κράτος των Σκοπίων. Με αυτή την αίτηση δηλώνουμε πως το όνομα, η ιστορία και η πολιτιστική κληρονομιά της Μακεδονίας είναι δίχως καμιά αμφισβήτηση Ελληνικοί θεσμοί και υπό καμία περίπτωση διαπραγματεύσιμοι με την γειτονική χώρα των Σκοπίων.
