Alexander "Alec" Poulios Passes Away



PORTLAND -- Alexander Alec Poulios, 91, of Portland died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at a Portland hospital.

Alec was born in Livadi, Greece the son of Demetrious and Annetta Voyazas Poulios and migrated to the United States as a child and was educated in New Hampshire.

Alec married Geraldine Osborne in 1952.

He was a manager and later became co-owner of the Puritan Tea Room for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife of 10 years Geraldine, his parents, a brother Eddie, and son Robert.

Survivors include a son Willie Burney and his wife Charlene; a son Stanley Burney; and a daughter Penny and her husband Jim Dennison; sisters Persephone and Helen Poulios of Portland; brothers Costas and wife Leni of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Plouto and wife Stacey of Rochester, N.Y., Memos and wife Gina of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Alec did it his way.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006 with a 7 p.m., Trisagion service at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Interment to follow at Forest City Cemetery in Portland.
