Pauline Siatras Passes Away



BRUNSWICK — Pauline Siatras, 87, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Dionne Commons after a long illness. She was born in Danvers, Mass., on Feb. 2, 1911, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Karantza. She was the oldest of 10 children. She graduated from Danvers Normal Schools and married Thomas L. Siatras in Portland in 1931. Mr. Siatras died in 1967. Mrs. Siatras worked with her husband at his business, the Pine Tree Candy Co. in Portland, and they opened and operated the Kandy Kettle in Brunswick from 1940-57. Later, Mrs. Siatras owned and operated Clares Dolphin Restaurant with her son, John, on Maine Street in Brunswick for 32 years. She was known as "Mrs. Clare" by many repeat seasonal visitors, including the cast of the Maine State Music Theatre. She was interested in antique jewelry. Mrs. Siatras was a former member of the Brunswick Professional Women's Club and was awarded the 1976-77 Equalization Certificate. She was also a member of the Portland Soroptimist Club. She is survived by a longtime companion, Theodore Bombardier; two sons, John Siatras of Brunswick and Dr. Louis T. Siatras of Cape Elizabeth; three sisters, Angela Plummer of Portland and Mary Gato and Betty Moustrouphis, both of South Portland; three brothers, Albert Karas of Ocala, Fla., Angelus Karantza of Windham and James Karas of South Portland; three granddaughters, Karen Siatras, Carol Siatras and Tara Siatras; and a grandson, T.J. Siatras. She was predeceased by two sisters, Theresa Gato and Eva Bean; and a brother, Charles Karantza. Visiting hours will be held tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick, followed by a funeral service Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 133 Pleasant St., Portland. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
