National Shrine Announces National Shrine Day Pilgrimage Volunteer of the Year Award Recipients

St. Augustine, FL – Archbishop Demetrios, prelate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America and president of the St Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine in St Augustine, will honor Gary and Faye Peterson, an exceptional couple, who exemplify their commitment to volunteerism by sharing their time, energy and expertise while witnessing their Orthodox Faith and Hellenic Heritage at the 25th Anniversary of the Dedication Celebration held 1:30 pm on Sunday, February 4, 2007.

The V. Rev Nicholas T. Graff, executive director of the St Photios Foundation embraced this as an opportunity to thank the Petersons for the many ways that they have supported the Shrine over the years. Their contributions illustrate both an imperative and an opportunity as the goals of the Shrine can only be achieved with a full spectrum of support of all its stakeholders.

Associate Director Polly Hillier underscored the following collaborations of the Petersons over the past 12 months: Greek Landing Day, Cultural Saturday, and particularly to their response during two untoward incidents in the past year. These lifelong residents of St Augustine are a military family who has been outstanding community members on three levels: within the City of St Augustine, within the County of St Johns and within the community of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in St Augustine.
