Rev. Marketos Inducted as First Greek Orthodox National Chaplain

Rev. Dionisios Marketos is now commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant Greek orthodox Chaplain of the New York guard," announced 1st Lt. Peter S. Giakoumis of the 4th Platoon, D Company of the New York Guard. The official ceremony was performed, Sunday, Dec. 17th, at the Philoptohos ladies Society social in the church hall of the Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Mattituck, N.Y. This was a historical moment in the 150 year history of the National Guard. A free luncheon of Greek cuisine was served to the community under the supervision of Philoptohos President Virginia Tripolitis and the ladies of the community

"The New York Guard will become the premier State Defense Force in the Nation," said Commanding Major General Michael R. Van Patten, on October 2, 2006. "The force will be comprised of fully trained personnel, ready to respond immediately to state emergency, and homeland defense missions, as directed by the Governor and The Adjutant General.
